Here’s how you share files or folders in SharePoint:
- Select the file or folder you want to share, and then select Share.
- (Optional) Select the dropdown list to change the type of link.
- Enter the names of the people you want to share with and a message, if you want.
- When you’re ready to send the link, select Send.

Click Site contents and locate the document library the folder’s stored in. Locate the folder, select it with your cursor, and click the Share button. Select who you want to share the folder with and their permissions, then click Apply. Specify the users you’re sharing with, type a message (optional), then click Send.
Upload files from Explorer to your OneDrive or SharePoint sites library
- Open the OneDrive or SharePoint site library.
- Select Upload at the top of the Documents library.
- In the Add a document dialog box, select Browse to upload an individual file.
- When you’ve selected the file or files to upload, select OK.

Select Share site. In the Share site pane, enter the names of people or groups to add them to the site, or enter “Everyone except external users” to share the site with everyone in your organization. Change the permission level (Read, Edit, or Full control) as needed.
Right-click the file that you want to link to, and select Get a link. Choose the type of link you want, and then copy the link. Return to the document library where you want to add the link, and enter that link in the Create link to dialog.
Shared with Us does not appear on the menu until the user clicks on a Documents Library link (which is a bit annoying). First, the users need to click on Documents, then the Shared with Us link will appear on the left. Click that you will now see the files and folders shared with the group.
How do I share a file in Microsoft Teams? You can share files in a one-on-one chat, a group chat, or a team channel. Select the paperclip icon below the box where you type a message to upload a copy of your original file. You can also upload a file by going to the Files tab of a chat and selecting Share.
Share a single item using a link

SharePoint has external sharing settings at both the organization level and the site level (previously called the “site collection” level). To allow external sharing on any site, you must allow it at the organization level. You can then restrict external sharing for other sites.

To attach a link to an old version of a SharePoint document to an email message:
- Right-click the document and select Version History.
- Locate the version you want to attach and click the Copy Link icon ( ) next to it.
- Paste the link into an outgoing email message.
Add the Quick links web part
If your page is not already in edit mode, click Edit at the top right of the page. and then select the Quick links web part. Type over the Quick links title to add your own title. Select a layout, and choose the options you want for that layout.
How do I hyperlink directly to a document?
Press Ctrl+K. You can also right-click the text or picture and click Link on the shortcut menu. In the Insert Hyperlink box, type or paste your link in the Address box. Note: If you don’t see the Address box, make sure Existing File or Web Page is selected under Link to.

- Upload it as *. url file. However, by default, this file type is not allowed.
- Go to you Document Library settings > Advanced Settings > Allow management of content types. Add the “Link to document” content type to a document library and paste the link.
Creating a shared folder in the Launchbar
- On the Home tab, click New, and then click Shared Folder.
- Enter a name for the shared folder, and click OK.
- Select an option for creating or selecting the folder to be synchronized, and click OK.
Open an Office file
- Click the File tab.
- Click Open.
- Under Favorites, click SharePoint Sites.
- Click the SharePoint site where your file is located, and then click Open.
- Click the name of the library that contains the file, such as Shared Documents, and then click Open.
