To enable the breakout room feature for your own use:
- Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
- In the navigation menu, click Settings.
- Navigate to the Breakout Room option on the Meeting tab and verify that the setting is enabled.

Can you enable breakout rooms with free zoom?
Each participant has full video, audio, and screen share capabilities. Anyone with a Zoom account can participate in breakout rooms for free by signing in to their profile and enabling the feature. However, to create a breakout room, you must first enable this setting on Zoom.
How do I let a participant choose a breakout room?
Let Zoom meeting participants choose their breakout room
- Once your Zoom meeting has started, click Breakout Rooms.
- Select the number of breakout rooms you would like, select Let participants choose room, and click Create.
- When you are ready to start the Breakout rooms, click Open all Rooms.

Chat. Within each breakout room, attendees can chat with everyone in the breakout room or a specific person in the breakout room even if participant chat is disabled in the main room. Messages sent in chat from a breakout room are only viewable to those in that breakout room.

Click Breakout Rooms in the meeting controls. Click Broadcast message to all, enter your message, and click Broadcast.
