Edit page or new page
- On the upper left ‘Site Actions’, select ‘Edit Page’ (to edit an existing page) or ‘New Page’ (to create a new page) – see Figure 1.
- Click on the text or area you need to edit, and make your changes.

Steps
- 1 Open the SharePoint site.
- 2 Click on Site Actions (gear icon) and then select Site Settings.
- 3 Under the Users and Permissions category, click Site Permissions.
- 4 Select the check box next to the group whose permission you wish to modify.
- 5 Go to the Permissions tab and click Edit User Permissions.
In SharePoint, pages are treated just like any other content (documents, events, etc.). This means that if the users have Edit or Contribute permission level (those in Members Group), not only these users can add/edit/delete documents from a document library, but they can also modify the pages!
Edit one or more items in a list view
- Navigate to the site containing the list where you want to edit an item.
- Select the name or title of the list.
- Select the circle next to the item you want to edit, right click, and then select in the dropdown.
- In the list item, edit the information you want to change.
- Click Save.
You can download the file from the Page Layouts and Masterpage gallery. After you have obtained it from the website, you can edit it in any text-editor you like (notepad, VS2010, etc.). When you are done you can upload the file again and see your changes.

Why can’t I edit my document in SharePoint using Excel or Word online?

- Your document library maybe set up to force documents to be checked out before editing.

Step 1: Create a custom permission level
Go to Site settings > Site permissions > Permission Levels > Read > Copy Permissions > Create new. Please ensure you don’t select Edit items rights.
Delete users
- In your site, click Site Contents, and then click Settings.
- Under “Users and Permissions”, click People and groups.
- On the left, select the group from which you’d like to remove the users.
- Use the checkboxes to select the users you want to delete.
- Click Actions, and then select Remove Users from Group.
To modify a column, click the column in the list, click Modify, and then make the appropriate changes. Note: Some options for adding, removing, or modifying columns are available only when you publish to a SharePoint site.
Format a table
- In Edit view, click in the table that you want to format.
- Under Table Tools, click the Design tab.
- In the Table Styles group, rest your pointer over each table style until you find a style that you want to use.
- Click the style to apply it to the table.
Check if Quick Edit is enabled: To enable quick edit in SharePoint Online, you need to navigate to List Settings >> Advanced settings page >> Scroll down and under the quick edit option, choose βYesβ and then click OK.
Select the list item, right click, and then select Edit. to display the Edit window. Note that you can’t edit an enhanced rich text column in Quick Edit view. Add text and format it any way you want (change the font, font size, font color, highlight, bold, italics, underline, bullet points, numbering, and so on.
The Content Editor Web Part in SharePoint allows you to add formatted text, tables, hyperlinks, and images to a Web Part Page.
You can change a page’s Page Layout after you have logged in and are editing the page (click the Edit icon or click on the Site Actions dropdown menu and select Edit Page). In the ribbon, click on the Page tab and click the Page Layout dropdown. Select the layout you want and wait for the page to refresh.

Depending on the settings for your library and the program that you are using to edit the file, you may see a message when you open the file.
How can I edit a document?
Click Edit Document > Edit in Word for the web to make changes to a document. When you open a document from OneDrive, Word for the web displays it in Reading view. To make changes to your document, switch to Editing view, where you can add and delete content and do other things, such as: Add tables and pictures.
Edit β The user can manage lists and list items and contribute permissions. View only β The user can view pages, list items and documents. Documents can be viewed only in the browser; they cannot be downloaded from a SharePoint server to a local computer.
It normally happens when you close a document and the Office application does not release the information that the document is open for editing. SharePoint will sooner or later release this lock, so if you have patience, just wait for a few minutes.
Excel file is locked for editing
- Step 1: Try this first, if the file is locked by you.
- Step 2: Talk to the other user.
- Step 3: Make sure everyone uses a version that supports co-authoring.
- Step 4: Put the file in OneDrive or SharePoint in Microsoft 365.
- Step 5: Make sure to use one of these file formats.
