Change a view
- Go to the list or library where you want to change a view and click the List or Library tab.
- Click Modify View.
- Select the view you want to change from the Current View drop-down list.
- Make your changes, and then click OK at the bottom of the page.
How to customize a SharePoint modern list form out of the box
- Open any of the three forms from within the list: New Form (click +New), Display Form (click on an item), or Edit Form (select an item and click Edit).
- At the top of the form, click Edit form.
In the column creation tab, type in the name – Status indicator and select the column type – Choice. In the Choice option box enter the status colors – green, yeallow, red, and press OK.
With the modern list experience in SharePoint, you can:
- Pin documents, links, and filters to the top to highlight them.
- Easily add, reorder, resize, sort, filter, and group columns and create custom views.
- Improve the display of lists with column formatting and list view formatting.
To do this:
- Go to Office 365 Admin Center.
- Click on SharePoint Admin Center.
- Click on Settings.
- Scroll a bit down, in the middle of the screen, under SharePoint Lists and Libraries experience, choose Classic experience. Click OK.
Create a view
Click on the heading of the column you wish to filter by and choose Filter from the menu options. In the filter pane which opens on the right side of the page, choose the column value(s) by which you wish to filter the list. When you are finished, click the Apply button.
Create a custom form
- In your SharePoint site, browse to the Projects list.
- To create and manage flows for a list or a library, from the command bar, on the list or library page, select Integrate > Power Apps. More options appear:
- Select Customize forms. The Power Apps studio appears and loads your form onto the canvas.
Edit one or more items in a list view
- Navigate to the site containing the list where you want to edit an item.
- Select the name or title of the list.
- Select the circle next to the item you want to edit, right click, and then select in the dropdown.
- In the list item, edit the information you want to change.
- Click Save.
Edit a single item in list view
- Open the list you want to edit.
- Select the item, and then on the list’s command bar, click Edit .
- Enter the information in the list item. You may see a custom form instead of the default list form.
- For items with attachments, do one or more of the following:
- Click Save.

To change the colors, select the “Edit row styles” link. You are given two options for changing the colors. You can select to choose to edit the colors for Even or Odd rows by clicking on the color palette icon to the right. As you select a new color, you will see the changes automatically appear within the list.

To see only the lists in your personal storage, select Recent lists > My lists. To see only the lists that you’ve created, select the All recent lists filter on the right, then select Recent lists I created. This shows you both the lists you’ve created in SharePoint or Teams, and the lists in your personal storage.
How to make a modern page the new homepage
- Gear Icon > Site Contents.
- Navigate to the Site Pages library.
- Right-click on the page you want to make a new Homepage and choose Make Homepage.
- Just like with classic pages, you will get a brief pop-up confirming that the page has just become the Homepage!
At present, there is no official resource to declare the end date of SharePoint classic experience. Based on my research, classic mode is not going away, and even if it becomes “unsupported” or “deprecated” at some point after 2026 that doesn’t mean you can’t use it.
How do I change my site from classic to modern?
To achieve what you want on a classic subsite you can do the following:
- On the sub-site go to to site contents.
- Make sure you are using the modern view on the site contents.
- On the top command bar click on New and then Page.
- Create your modern page Save it and Publish.
- Go again to site contents on the sub-site.
SharePoint has resource throttles and limits that govern the amount of data and throughput that can be managed. The List View Threshold is, by default, approximately 5000 items, and is set to allow users to work with large lists, but keep good performance.
Go to the document library where you want to create a custom view. On the document library page, click + or + Add column. To create and add a new column type to include in your custom view, select the column type you want to add, give it a name and any other data needed, and click Save.
InfoPath was the most widely used tool to customize SharePoint list forms. Nonetheless, Microsoft has different plans for form designing options. If you are using the modern SharePoint list or the modern experience, then Microsoft is suggesting using Microsoft PowerApps.
