Open SharePoint Designer 2013 by selecting it on the Start menu. Click Start icon, click All Programs, click Microsoft Office 2013, and then click SharePoint Designer 2013. Click Open Site on the SharePoint Designer 2013 start page. Enter the SharePoint site that you want to connect to.

SharePoint Designer 2013 workflows on SharePoint Server 2013, 2016 and 2019. Workflows build on on-premise editions on SharePoint Server are still supported. You can create them and use on SharePoint on-premise. Designer can be used on every version of supported SharePoint editions: 2013, 2016, and 2019.
SharePoint Designer 2013 will work with SharePoint Server 2019 for the remainder of the client support lifecycle (2026). SharePoint Designer 2013 will not be supported beyond that timeframe. Overall, the general guidance is to mitigate the impact by migrating to Power Automate or other supported solutions.
To create a new site, click the File tab, choose Sites, and perform one of the following:
- Click New Blank Web Site to create a blank, empty SharePoint site.
- Click Add Subsite to My Site to create a new site under your My Site.
- Under Site Templates select a template to create a new site based on a SharePoint template.
Well, to enable design manager in SharePoint 2013, You got to activate “Publishing” Feature!
- Go to “Site Settings” of your root site collection >> Click on “Site collection features” under site collection administration.

Use SharePoint Designer with SharePoint Online
- Press the Windows key and type SharePoint Designer into the search box.

Open SharePoint Online/2016/2013 site collection, then from Site Collection Administration click on “SharePoint Designer Settings“. Then check if “Enable SharePoint Designer” is checked or not.
Add a page
- Open the site that you want to add a page to.
- Select New.
- Select Page.
- Select a template, then select Create page.
- Type a name of your page, then add any other content you want. Use web parts to add text, images, and other content.
- Select Publish when you’re ready.
This can be navigated as Settings-Site settings-Site collection features (under Site Collection Administration) – SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure – click on “Activate”. After steps 1 and 2 have been completed, navigate back to the site, under Settings, “Design Manager” will be available now.
Click on “Manage Site Features” as part of Site Actions in SharePoint. Enable the “SharePoint Server Publishing” feature. Now if you click on Site settings gear icon you can see “Design Manager”.
Design Manager is a publishing feature that is available in publishing sites in both SharePoint and Office 365. With Design Manager, you can create a visual design for your website by using whatever web design tool or HTML editor you prefer, using only HTML and CSS, and then upload that design into SharePoint.
Install SharePoint Designer 2013
- Open your Office 365 account page.
- Click on ‘Install status’ and then on ‘Install desktop applications’.
- Open Tools & add-ins.
- Under SharePoint Designer 2013, click on ‘Download and install’.
- Select language if you want another language than the default one.
Create a workflow with an approval task
- Start SharePoint Designer.
- Connect to your Project Web App site.
- On the left, click Workflows.
- Click Sample Workflow.
- Click Edit workflow.
- On the ribbon, click Stage, and then click 1 – Propose idea.
Yes, you can always create a workflow without having SharePoint designer. But without SharePoint designer, you are restricted to use default available templates of Workflows.
