OneDrive is the files experience for Microsoft 365 and SharePoint Server*, giving you access to all your work or school files, including the files that people share with you directly or through the teams you’re working on.With both OneDrive and SharePoint in Microsoft 365, your files are stored in the cloud.
Quick summary: OneDrive is essentially an online folder system for file storage, but SharePoint includes many other features such as collaboration, CMS, and dashboards. Microsoft 365 now includes SharePoint features in its cloud platform, but you can also purchase SharePoint by itself as an on-premise solution.
Sign in to SharePoint
- Go to office.com, and sign in to your work or school account.
- In the upper left corner of the window, select the app launcher > All apps > SharePoint. Tip: If you don’t see the SharePoint app under All apps, use the Search box near the top of the window to search for SharePoint.
See your SharePoint or Microsoft Teams files in the OneDrive mobile app
- In the OneDrive app when signed in with your work or school account, select Libraries.
- Select the name of the site and then the library where the files are located.
A list can have up to 30 million items and a library can have up to 30 million files and folders. When a list, library, or folder contains more than 100,000 items, you can’t break permissions inheritance on the list, library, or folder.

Open an Office file
- Click the File tab.
- Click Open.
- Under Favorites, click SharePoint Sites.

Go to the Home Page tab and enter the URL for the SharePoint site that you want to associate with the folder. Select the Show Home Page By Default For This Folder checkbox and click OK. Outlook should now display the SharePoint site whenever you select the folder (Figure E).
Open Central Administration. On the Application Management page, in the Site Collections section, click View all site collections. The Site Collection List page lists all the site collections in the web application.
In SharePoint in Microsoft 365, open the document library with the file or folders you want to move or copy. Select the View menu and then select View in File Explorer. Note: View in File Explorer works for a modern library in Microsoft Edge, or Internet Explorer 10 or 11.
Set up syncing
- On the Microsoft 365 app launcher, select SharePoint or Teams, and then select the site with the files you want to sync.
- Select Documents or navigate to the subfolder you want to sync.
- Select Sync.
- If your browser requests permission to use “Microsoft OneDrive,” confirm that this is okay.
On your OneDrive or SharePoint Online website, select the files or folders you want to download. Select Download. If your browser prompts you, choose Save or Save As and browse to the location where you want to save the download. Some browsers just start saving right away to a Downloads folder on your computer.

- Go to the Active sites page of the new SharePoint admin center, and sign in with an account that has admin permissions for your organization.
- Select a site, and then select Storage.
- Enter the maximum storage in GB for the site.

AutoSave is enabled when a file is stored on OneDrive, OneDrive for work or school, or SharePoint in Microsoft 365. It automatically saves your users’ changes to the cloud as they’re working.
Here is how you do this:
- Copy the URL of a SharePoint site you want to save a document to.
- Once you do the above, you will see contents of the site. So just navigate to a library and specific folder where you want to save a document to and click Open.
- The document is now saved directly to SharePoint.
Saving a PDF to SharePoint
- Go to Save > Save As.
- Press CTRL+SHIFT+S.
- Click Save As (DMS) on the Document Management toolbar. If you have enabled Toolbar integration only in File Access Preferences, this is the only option that will work for you.
